Senior post Amy Dickover was a first-team all-state selection for the Bulldogs, who finished second in the unsanctioned Class 3A state tournament.

The Sutherlin girls basketball team had to settle for second-best again, losing to Clatskanie in the 2021 championship game of the unofficial Class 3A state basketball tournament at the Pirate Palace in Coos Bay.

The Tigers (13-0) defeated the Bulldogs (13-1) 55-44, putting the only blemish on Sutherlin's short season due to the coronavirus pandemic. Clatskanie also beat Sutherlin in the 2020 title contest.

Sophomore Micah Wicks led Sutherlin with 19 points in the final, including two 3-pointers. Amy Dickover had 11 of her 14 points in the second half and Jadyn Vermillion scored 11.

Wicks and Dickover, a senior, were selected to the 3A all-state first team and Vermillion was a second-team pick.

Dickover and Josh Grotting were named the Far West League’s Player and Coach of the Year in a polling of the league’s coaches.
