DRAIN — The North Douglas softball team opened its season Wednesday with a 10-2 win over Lowell in a Special District 4 game at Howard's Field.
Sophomore Brooklyn Cyr tossed a one-hitter for the Warriors (1-0, 1-0 SD4), striking out nine, walking one and hitting one batter. North Douglas is ranked No. 3 in the OSAAtoday Class 2A/1A preseason coaches poll.
Cyr aided her cause at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Lailah Ward went 3-for-4, while Sydney Sprinkle and Brooklyn Williams were both 2-for-3 in the victory.
"We hadn't been on our field until today (due to the rain)," North Douglas coach Jesse Rice said. "We're really young, but we have some players. Brooklyn (Cyr) was throwing smoke and defensively I felt we played solid."
North Douglas is scheduled to host Monroe Friday in a nonleague contest.
