Happy New Year! Parties are over, the decorations are put away and the Salvation Army bell ringers are gone, but organizations are still looking for generous volunteers to fill the needs that remain.

Salvation Army is in immediate need of a musically gifted person to direct the children’s band. Senior Companion Program is looking for volunteers 55 and over to visit seniors and individuals with disabilities on a weekly basis. Each client has a care plan and the volunteer provides the client the services the individual needs — such as grocery shopping, banking, lab test or doctor appointments or social outings.

Hours are Monday to Friday at scheduled times convenient for both client and volunteer. A stipend and transportation reimbursement is provided. Karen, Senior Companion manager, can give you details at 541-492-3917or Karen.mcguire@ucancap.org

Mercy Medical Center is in need of patient relations volunteers to orient patients to their room, identify situations that need immediate attention from the nursing staff, patient advocate, discharge planning or social services personnel; veterans to join the national Veteran Visitation Program honoring servicemen who are receiving care at the hospital, sharing and listening to stories of service and explaining the benefits available to veterans; one gift shop sales associate who can operate cash register system, and credit card and payroll deduction sales.

Training is provided. All volunteers must be dependable and willing to work on a regular weekly basis. Contact Michelle at 541-677-4465 for more information.

Douglas County Dining Sites need drivers to deliver meals to homebound and disabled individuals at the Winston, Glide, Sutherlin, Yoncalla, Reedsport and Glendale dining sites on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mileage reimbursement is provided.

Winston, Glide, Yoncalla, Glendale and Reedsport also need kitchen helpers and Yoncalla also needs a desk register person on Tuesdays Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. To volunteer or get further information call the Senior Services Meal Program at 541-440-3677.

The Senior Services office is also looking for a volunteer to update their database and four volunteer greeters for the Roseburg Court House information booth. Days and times are flexible and training is provided. Call 541-400-3677 for details.
